I think that there are two distinct camps of Old GuisPursborians (apologies to Lewis Carroll): those who live handy and those that do not. I am the party of the second part. Addressing one's 'roots' is a classical feature of ageing I freely admit. But the interregnum weakened the tradition of assembly. For the party of the first part there is all the geographic of potential energy easily released - you are there, just allow it to happen, and don't worry so much about being a year or two apart (what a profound difference even a year made then). For us others, perhaps the slightness of Internet connection will have to suffice unless we can create a new tradition that we can meld to the old. Anyone for Internet?

Hi Bill, Hi Martin,

The 450th celebrations focussed on the current community - as per the various flyers posted in advance. Perhaps the college was too busy organizing the event to give much thought to ongoing Alumni arrangements. Several of us did try. Perhaps they may be able to devote a little more thought to it between now and the start of the next academic year.

We'll add your names to any informal arrangements we create ourselves. Latest is a day out to the cricket in Scarborough - see the Facebook link.

I was at GGS/PPC from 1969-1976 and would love to find out more about any 450th anniversary celebrations. My cousin (Peter Radford) was also at GGS (from 1941-48?) and has heard that something is planned.

I was at GGS 1940-47 . A number of Old Boys would be interested in an informal reunion. J. Liddell and R. Claxton locally are involved.

I remember Chris well, by his signature glasses and his excellent knowledge of every subject or interest he pursued. He and I shared several A-level science classes, in which we were both enthusiastic and good students, but as I recall he also excelled in almost every subject and had a great intellectual’s mind. I also recall playing bridge with him, Chris Davies, Johnny Bowden, Derrick Hughes and others, when in the sixth form a lot of us played cards in the common room. I have not seen Chris for over thirty years and it is sad to hear that he is no longer with us, yet is nice to know that he was liked, loved and respected by his friends and colleagues.
